The story of the Black Bay collection
The Black Bay collection is first and foremost a modern incarnation of Tudor's iconic 1954 Submariner. The first product in the "diver's" series, it is ergonomic, easy to read, precise, and robust. It perfectly embodies the approach of American architect Louis Sullivan. According to Sullivan, the form of an object should follow its function. It also lays the aesthetic and technical foundations of the ideal dive watch: a discreet, functional, and reliable tool.
Furthermore, this collection currently features more than a dozen versions. Some are a tribute to legendary watches of the past, while others reinvent the original in ways entirely .
Tudor offers the watchmaking world a collection of iconic and affordable timepieces supported by exceptional design. It features a particularly distinctive winding crown from the famous 1958 reference 7924, also known as the Big Crown, and the distinctive angular hands called Snowflake are from Tudor watches used by the French Navy in the 1970s.
The Manufacture Caliber MT5652
The Manufacture Calibre MT5652 with integrated GMT function was developed by TUDOR to power the Black Bay Pro model. It exemplifies TUDOR's unique approach to technical development, which avoids the use of additional modules to add new functions to its in-house movements, instead relying on an evolving architecture capable of integrating them. A minor detail for some, a must for watchmaking purists.
The power reserve of the Calibre Manufacture MT5652 is said to be "weekend-proof", or approximately 70 hours, which allows the wearer to put down their watch on Friday evening and put it back on Monday morning without having to wind it.
